For the second year running the Mounshannon pair of White Tailed Sea Eagles have produced a female chick. Dr Allan Mee of the Golden Eagle Trust said” The chick is a very healthy 6.25kg in weight, by far the heaviest chick tagged in the wild to date” In late June she was examined by Dr Mee along with staff from The NPWS. A satellite transmitter was fitted under license from The NPWS and an identification tag as can be seen above with the Number 4.
The satellite transmitter will allow The Golden Eagle Trust monitor the birds’ movements once she fledges, and especially in the early years of life are when the eagles are most vulnerable.
