The juveniles spend a lot of time were around the Harbour Flights base these days, much to the displeasure of the birds in the nearby rookery. One of the juveniles was eating a small pike on a rock by the shore until a mink came and stole it while the eaglets back was turned. The parents could later be heard calling at which point the juvenile returned to Bushy Island where the male was circling with another fish, a mid-air exchange failed with the eaglet at which point the male dropped the fish in the nest. Towards the end of the month the eaglets spent time perched in the pines behind the harbour, from where they could be heard calling loudly.

“….Great excitement at the Harbour watching the eagle chicks these days. Thought I should let you know that they were hanging around the Harbour/Flights base Saturday. You knew immediately that the Eagles were around as there were about 100 Rook crows in hot pursuit. The seaplane guys even asked why they were hanging around and should they feed them! What they missed was… that the chick had a small pike which it was eating on a rock ….that was at least until a mink came and stole it while the eaglets back was turned. The parents could later be heard calling at which point it returned to Bushy Island where the male was circling with another fish…..a mid-air exchange failed with the eaglet at which point Daddy eagle dropped the fish in the nest for supper….. the adventures of the Bushy Island Eagles!! …..Move over Lassie, Flipper and donald duck, new stars have been born…” John Conroy
